About Me
Hi, I’m Claire Law - Your Local Preston BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor & Psychotherapist.
I love my work as a counsellor in Preston! Whilst I didn’t grow up in Lancashire, I’ve made Preston my home for over a quarter of a century and am very much a “Proud Prestonian” now.
I have experience of offering counselling and psychotherapy in a range of settings and have developed particular interests in working with people facing anxiety and grief and loss in their many forms, including estrangement. I also specialize in working with neurodivergent people, exploring themes including Autistic/ADHD burnout and the impact of masking. Often my work with clients takes us into exploring the impact of childhood trauma.
I’m currently employed part-time as a counsellor at a local university to complement my private work with clients. I also offer content writing and training services on Mental Health, Psychology and Wellbeing topics.
I previously worked as a Religious Studies High School teacher for more than 16 years, so I am very comfortable exploring issues connected with spirituality, the impact of being involved in religious communities and questions around meaning and purpose in life that clients have.
I’ve experienced for myself the impact of burnout and how counselling can be transformative. I like the motto “you can only take a client as far as you have journeyed yourself”. I’m committed to my own ongoing personal development journey which helps me stay grounded and keeps me “real” as a therapist.
Having also worked with adults with learning disabilities and within the charity sector supporting unpaid carers, I’ve got plenty of life experience to help me to empathize and connect with people in my counselling work. I have lived experience of neurodivergence - and am happy for you to ask me about this if it is important for you to know more. I’m listed on the Autistic Therapists Directory.
I experience myself as calm, reflective and approachable, with a great sense of humour and a creative approach to life. I have a keen eye for detail. When I’m not in my therapy room, I’m usually in the garden, or starting (but rarely finishing!) a creative project. I also enjoy Yoga and fitness classes.
